It isn’t dawn yet, but I am sitting at my desk with newfound energy. Another fabulous IAW conference is behind me and I’m inspired to register my reflections before the daily activities dilute its intensity.
A writer gets used to the walls of her cave, and although I make an effort to emerge now and then for public appearances, most of my days are spent in this small cubicle, typing away. Still, there are a few events I can’t miss. The IAW conferences are at the top of that list. Neither distance nor the loads of work on my desk can keep me from attending an event that is sure to provide fuel for the long haul ahead.
Once again, the success of Iranian-American women sets a new bar, inspiring me to do better, reach higher, and live up to the fabulous reputation of my peers. The Leadership Conferences shed new light on these women’s outstanding achievements. Just when I think I can’t possibly be more impressed, their numbers grow, their accomplishments are more remarkable, and the audience’s response becomes more overwhelming.
What makes these conferences exceptional is how each year a nationwide search succeeds to find new extra-ordinary women to be the speakers, yet no one is hand picked to be the star, no one is the focal point and all women, absent or present are equally celebrated. I met scholars, scientists, and CEO’s of huge corporations. I also spoke to vendors, volunteers, homemakers, and people who attended the conference for the first time. Each of these ladies, regardless of age or social status, manifested a certain beauty, yet their combined energy created enough of a blast to shake the hall.
I was delighted to present my new novel, and as people stopped by to chat or have their books signed, I could not hide my pride for being connected to such a magnificent organization. The IAW certainly delivers what it promises:
Inspire.
Empower.
Connect.
I AM a proud Iranian American Woman. Are You?
